JEEP APPAREL CELEBRATES WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
Jeep Apparel Chips in for Nature through its World Environment Day Charity Drive
Kuala Lumpur, Friday, June 5, 2012 – Our natural heritage is being depleted and our wildlife is facing the threat of endangerment more than ever as we speak. To answer Mother Nature’s silent call for help, more corporate citizens are taking initiatives to preserve the environment. Jeep Apparel, an international casual wear brand, is proud to take on an active role in preserving the environment by collaborating with Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) to launch its World Environment Day Charity Drive.
Jeep’s World Environment Day Charity Drive, which will be conducted from July to September this year, is designed to increase awareness and encourage its customers to go green by adopting and practicing an environmental friendly lifestyle. In conjunction with the campaign, Jeep Apparel will showcase their new collection which is inspired by the Jeep Willys vintage.
Synonymous with Jeep’s tagline, Live Without Limits, the latest collection is a tribute to the rugged and adventurous soul, but yet perfect for the urbanites’ city lifestyle. The designs are both bold yet understated in style, combining bright hues of orange, yellow and blue, with basic colours of brown and khaki.
According to the Chief Operating Officer of Jordone Corporation Sendirian Berhad, Eric Loke, the threats and impact of global warming and climate change are already affecting society as a whole and can no longer be ignored. Responsible corporate citizens across all industries need to work together to preserve the environment through their business activities.
“As a responsible corporate citizen, we need to work together to preserve the environment for our future generation. As such, Jordone Corporation is proud to announce that Jeep Apparel will be donating part of their sales revenue generated from this campaign to MNS to support their efforts in the conservation of our natural heritage for over half a century”, Loke said.
To support MNS, Jeep Apparel will donate 5 per cent of its sales revenue from July 1 to September 30, 2012. Proceeds will be channelled into the MNS GREEN aid fund which in turn will be used to raise awareness and secure the conservation of environmentally sensitive areas, key habitats and species in Malaysia. One of MNS’ key initiatives is the on-going campaign and lobbying to protect our rainforest, which happens to be the oldest in the world!
The Belum-Temengor Forest Complex (BTFC) is said to be more than 130 million years old, older even than the Amazon Forest or the Congo Basins. For a forest which has withstood the test of time, the biodiversity of this forest is unique and none like any other. Home to our iconic animals including our tigers, elephants, rhinoceroses and the iconic Malayan Tapirs, there is an urgent need to conserve this priceless natural heritage before we lose it altogether to indiscriminate logging and illegal wildlife trade.
The conservation of BTFC has been a long concern of MNS. Older than Malaysia, MNS embodies our history and evolution as a nation and has taken on conservation issues through field conservation projects and environmental education for the past 70 years. Thanks to the efforts put in by MNS, The Royal Belum State Park (117,500 ha) was finally gazetted in May 2007, four years after which it was announced. However, only one third is protected and the remaining two thirds of the Temengor Forest Reserve remain vulnerable to a host of threats particularly logging and poaching.
The objective of this current campaign is to advocate for protection of the Temengor Forest Reserve, in order to preserve the integrity of the Belum-Temengor Forest Complex as an intact forest landscape as well as to increase enforcement on wildlife hunting and trade.
“MNS is proud to be a part of this collaboration and lauds Jordone Corporation for their efforts in wanting to raise awareness by promoting an alternative eco-friendly lifestyle to their customers. It is heartening to note that more corporations are coming forward to join in our efforts in conserving and preserving Malaysia’s rich, resplendent natural heritage” said Andrew Sebastian, Head of Communications of the Malaysian Nature Society. One of the key activities for the Jeep World Environment Day Charity Drive is a series of road shows themed “Live Without Limits Tour 2012”, where to the brand hopes to further create awareness, educate the importance of conservation and encourage its customers to do their bit for the nature.
“We are aware of the need to take the lead in encouraging our customers to support this great cause not only during this campaign but also by adopting simple tips like reducing wastage, recycling and many others in their lifestyle to help preserve the nature”, Loke continued.
To further promote MNS and its efforts, Jeep Apparel will be designing and producing limited edition tee shirts by using MNS’ icon, the Malayan Tapir.
“We also hope to encourage greater awareness of the efforts and programmes by MNS among the public through this limited edition tee shirt collection. This will eventually lead to greater support and participation from the public for the activities conducted by MNS”, Loke added.
The Jeep Live Without Limits Tour 2012 will be featuring special discount on products for the public to enjoy. For more information, please visit www.facebook.com/JeepApparelMY
